Harp Tastings at the Somerset Folk Harp Festival
The popular harp tastings began right here at the Somerset Folk Harp Festival! Join us for two special tasting sessions where you can experience a wide range of harps in a unique and unbiased way:
When?

Small Harp Tasting (harps with 27 strings or fewer):
Friday, July 17 • 12:00–12:45 PM -
Large Harp Tasting:
Saturday, July 18 • 12:00–12:45 PM
The Harp Tasting Experience
In each session, a variety of harps from different makers will be brought into the concert hall. You’ll sit with your back to the stage so you can listen without being influenced by the look of the harp or the name of the maker. Each harp will be played by two different harpists.
You’ll receive a comment sheet where you can jot down your impressions of each instrument.
Tips on What to Listen For: Use specific adjectives like:

Bright, clear, mellow, sweet, vibrant, brilliant, crisp, loud, rich, round, muted
Try to avoid vague words like “nice” or “interesting.” Use the PF (Personal Favorite) column to mark any harps you particularly liked — you can mark as many as you want.
Once all the harps have been played, you’ll turn your chair around to see the harps revealed in the order they were played.
Then, head to the exhibit hall to try out your favorites in person — and maybe even find the one that’s going home with you!
